Movie Review: Inheritance / La herencia (ENG/ESP) (2024)

Inheritance is an American thriller film, released on May 22 this year. It stars Lily Collins, Simon Pegg, Connie Nielsen, Chace Crawford and Patrick Warburton. Directed by Vaughn Stein.

I usually like this type of thriller with a lot of suspense, however this one did not meet my expectations. It lacked a lot, to be honest, to satisfy me. I can't really pinpoint what I disliked the most, its predictable argument, its flat and poorly chosen protagonists or the context in which it is written, which I find unrealistic.

Por lo general me gustan este tipo de thriller con mucho suspenso, sin embargo este no llenó mis expectativas. Le faltó mucho, la verdad, para conformarme. No puedo precisar en realidad qué fue lo que más me desagradó, su argumento predecible, sus protagonistas planos y mal elegidos o el contexto en que se escribe que me resulta poco realista.

It all begins when the father of a wealthy family dies unexpectedly and leaves his children the inheritance, the eldest, a young man with political aspirations to whom he leaves most of his fortune, and a young prosecutor to whom he leaves much less; this leads us to think that they did not get along well. And the film shows this about a hundred times. Also, the family lawyer gives an envelope part of the inheritance to the daughter, Lauren, containing a video and a key. This directs her to a secret subway bunker on the family's property. There she finds a captive man who identifies himself as Morgan Warner, who claims to have been imprisoned for 30 years. This man begins to tell her secrets about his family and, oh coincidentally, they are true. Too predictable...the only thing I didn't expect was the ending. Warner manages to trick her and in the end she ends up free and gets revenge on the family.

Todo comienza cuando el padre de una familia de mucho dinero muere inesperadamente y deja a sus hijos la herencia, el mayor, un joven con aspiraciones políticas a quien deja la mayoría de su fortuna, y una joven fiscal a quien deja muchísimo menos; esto nos da a pensar que no se llevaban bien. Y la película lo muestra unas cien veces. Además, el abogado de la familia le entrega un sobre parte de la herencia a la hija, Lauren, que contiene un video y una llave. Esto la dirige a un búnker subterráneo secreto en la propiedad de la familia. Allí encuentra a un hombre cautivo que se identifica como Morgan Warner, quien dice haber estado preso durante 30 años. Este hombre comienza a contarle secretos sobre su familia y, ¡oh casualidad!, son ciertos. Demasiado predecible… lo único que no me esperaba fue el final. Warner consigue engañarla y al final termina libre y se venga de la familia.

Not much more to say, I didn't like the performances and found them forced and, in some cases, fake. The characters and their lives, too pompous and perfect for the age they seem to be. Not so perfect at heart though. If you want to see something imple, you'll find it here; if you expect too much like me, I don't recommend it.

No hay mucho más para decir, no me gustaron las actuaciones y me parecieron forzadas y, en algunos casos, falsas. Los personajes y su vida, demasiado pomposa y perfecta para la edad que parecen tener. Aunque no tan perfecta en el fondo. Si quieres ver algo imple, aquí lo vas a encontrar; si esperas mucho como yo, no lo recomiendo.
