How do you plant Carlton daffodil bulbs? ›

Daffodils should be planted in full sun or at least 1/2 day (8 hours) of direct sunlight after the leaves are on the trees and should be planted 3x the height of their bulb deep (3″-8″) in compost enriched soil.

Daffodil or narcissus bulbs are planted in the fall, when the weather starts to cool and before hard freezes set in. In more northern regions, daffodil bulbs can be planted in late September through October, while in more southern regions, the planting time is October through November.

Consider good spacing for your bulbs. Keep them about three inches apart. This means that, for a 12-inch planter, you could plant three or four bulbs. Plant your bulbs at the same depth that you'd plant them in the ground, about two to three times the height of the bulb.

'Dutch Master' Daffodil (Narcissus 'Dutch Master')
